About the design:

The Heritage series is a budget conscience reproduction of the Neve classics that utilizes machines to build the PCBS using surface mount technology.

They use a DC inleted power supply (over a classic power transformer), AC to DC design for the 24 and 48v rails needed. 

SMD technology is quick, inexpensive and easy to build, but is NOT notoriously great sounding in audio applications.

They often sound clean, but mid forward, small and brittle at times.

 
The HA73EQ Elite series designs: Stock, these units are clean but due to their use of all SMD capacitors and transistors, most users find them to be very mid forward and lacking the warmth and depth of a real Neve or BAE. 

On the HA-73EQ we offer both a Full Circuit path upgrade that includes all SMD caps, output transistor, noise reduction, power supply modifications and more. 

About the Modifications

We are offering the most comprehensive and Cumulative modifications on these available on the market.

We all know these preamps pack a good price to performance ratio but lack a lot of the audio Mojo compared to an original 1073.

With the modifications they get very close with better bandwidth, higher headroom, lower distortion, less harsh and sound less muddy to boot.

The character smoothes out and the noise floor is lowered to a point where the audio is just right and a lot closer to the original Neve Design!

The low end extension as well as detail is substantially improved.

What we do to these little boxes is essentially pull all of the SMD Electrolytic capacitors out and install Low noise, high performance Panasonic capacitors for more warmth, lower noise and better dynamics.

Various values are adjusted throughout for better performance.

The output 2n3055 in this design is a SMD mount to-220 style which is another reason for the mid-forward sound. 

We pull this part out and mount a proper low noise, high headroom version and reset the bias.

You walk away with a wonderful sounding preamp with boutique modifications that will make pro studios happy at a price that doesn't disrupt your month.
